How our English Fine Bone China Mugs are decorated
Keeping British Manufacturing Alive
All of our Fine Bone China Mugs are produced and hand decorated here at Heraldic Pottery, in the historic potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, England.
These mugs remain high-end quality, despite pressures to commercialise cheaper overseas components and processes. Traditional decorating techniques and hand-skilled operatives, associated with the finest quality production, remain at the heart of our product.
We would like to share with you the process to see how they are decorated:

Film work being positioned on the screen ready for exposure

Film work being exposed to the screen using a high uv light

Exposed screen being washed out and leaving the film work impression for printing

Transfer printing setup

Transfer paper being fed onto the cylinder silk screen printing machine

Transfer sheets being printed to form decals with each colour individually printed

Printed sheets drying on wicket dryers

Progressive build up colour sheets ready for archiving

Decoration/lithographing of the printed decals onto the mugs

Kilns and firing of the decorated mugs at temperature of over 800 degrees
